چکیده

Soil organic maer and its turnover rate are key parameters for agricultural management practice as well as for environmental issues. In a field experiment comparing organic (compost) and mineral fertilisation and combinations of both the amount of inorganic nitrogen in the soil and the nitrogen uptake by the plants were measured. Considering these data and the fertilisation practice the net N-mineralisation during the vegetation periods 1996–2001 was estimated for six fertilisation treatments. Simultaneously the nitrogen dynamics in the soil were calculated using the STOTRASIM model, which takes into account four soil organic maer pools of different turnover rate. A close relation was found between the amount of a slow decomposable fraction and the net N-mineralisation during the vegetation period.

Soil Organic C: N vs. Water-extractable Organic C: N

Traditionally, soil-testing laboratories have used a variety of methods to determine soil organic matter, yet they lack a practical method to predict potential N mineralization/immobilization from soil organic matter. Soils with high microbial activity may experience N immobilization (or reduced net N mineralization), and this issue remains unresolved in how to predict these conditions of net m...

Stable soil nitrogen accumulation and flexible organic matter stoichiometry during primary floodplain succession

Large increases in nitrogen (N) inputs to terrestrial ecosystems typically have small effects on immediate N outputs because most N is sequestered in soil organic matter. We hypothesized that soil organic N storage and the asynchrony between N inputs and outputs result from rapid accumulation of N in stable soil organic pools. We used a successional sequence on floodplains of the Tanana River n...

Estimated carbon residence times in three forest ecosystems of eastern China: Applications of probabilistic inversion

[1] Carbon residence time is one critical parameter for predicting future land carbon sink dynamics but has not been well quantified for many plant and soil pools. This study applied a probabilistic inverse analysis of multiple observations to estimate mean residence times of carbon among three forest ecosystems in eastern China. Three assimilation experiments were conducted with either net eco...

Nitrogen mineralization from organic residues: research opportunities.

Research on nitrogen (N) mineralization from organic residues is important to understand N cycling in soils. Here we review research on factors controlling net N mineralization as well as research on laboratory and field modeling efforts, with the objective of highlighting areas with opportunities for additional research. Among the factors controlling net N mineralization are organic compositio...
